The "Vern" way of life
Hello Rattie lovers!
From Bubba and myself, we hope you had a Happy New year. This week I would like to interduce a rattie named Vern. You’ll join Vern on his trip along the top of the world!
Vern is 9 years, he was adopted by his loving family from a animal shelter in New Mexico summer of 2023. Vern had one wish when he was adopted.. to see a moose up close. ( I kid you not this little guy barked at a live moose!). Seriously though, after Vern was adopted he hopped in the car and headed north for colder climates.

“I say we head west…. to belly rubs!“ - Vern
British Columbia was his first stop, a quick pee break on a glacier and he was off to Denali Nation park in Alaska to find a moose to accost. Thankfully for the Moose, Vern was in his family’s truck when he spotted the Moose and let out a few barks of confidence. With that done Vern moved on to the Yukon, to watch snowshoe hares (thank goodness they have snowshoes) and a Grizzly bear play in the snow ( once again safe in the family truck).

Further north still, Vern found himself in the Arctic Circle, watching the midnight sun. He kept trucking and eventually Vern arrived in Tukoyaktuk, NWT, Canada. Vern wanted to partake in the tradition for visitors wading in the Arctic Ocean, but Vern “settled” (which his mother claims really meant “tolerated with dismay”) having his paws dipped in the surf.

All in all Vern enjoyed his time sniffing new smells, sleeping on the long truck drives, but most of all he enjoyed his new life full of fun away from that shelter. Vern never could have dreamed to see the beauty of the north but thankfully he has a loving family who wants the best for Vern, like we all do for our Ratties/pets/family/ anyone we love. I want to personally thank Vern’s family for adopting him and giving him a wonderful life.
Vern is headed to Baja California with his family for a much much warmer beach vacation. Maybe this time Vern will dip a little further in the water.
Thanks for reading!
